SCORM packages not saving progress... anyone else experienced this?

Hi! I have some SCORM packages exported from Articulate that aren’t saving users’ progress on my LMS. Has anyone else experienced this? I’m really hoping to figure out what’s going wrong because it’s affecting the user experience. Any insights would be super helpful!

If you’re dealing with the issue where the ‘suspended state’ isn’t carrying over between the SCORM course and LMS, try republishing your course in SCORM 2004 instead of SCORM 1.2. Articulate often ‘overflows’ the space allowed in the ‘suspend_data’ variable in SCORM 1.2, and not all LMSs can handle that. Hope this helps!

I had an issue with Articulate not sending the cmi.progress_measure field to my LMS, and user progress was not being updated as they moved through the course. It seems like they don’t support this field despite it being included in SCORM 2004. Not sure if this is the same issue, but it was very frustrating and ultimately no solution was presented.

@faye
Same here, we’ve talked a lot with Articulate support, no solution was presented.

Articulate support is trash but so is their software.

What LMS do you use? Most LMS platforms aren’t supporting SCORM 2004 or higher. Can you provide the following info: Name of LMS Platform, SCORM type, use of triggers to exit/complete, tracking type (incomplete/complete, passed/failed, etc.), LMS or Web Export, Storyline or Rise. I might be able to point you in the right direction.

Do you mean saving progress as they go through the course? Articulate doesn’t provide that with the export. It only sends Completed or Passed/Failed status. They haven’t implemented the cmi.progress_measure key, which is required for sending course progress to the LMS. Disclaimer: I work with a product that solves this problem. If you’re interested, send me a message.

@Azriel
Yes, I mean saving progress as they go through the course! I will contact you.

SCORM is like the PowerPoint of learning content. How far course progress is tracked depends on the LMS. There may be some export settings in Articulate to adjust before exporting. Happy to chat if you need help.

I’ve worked with many LMSs, and different SCORM packages react differently to various LMSs. For example, we currently use two different LMSs; one requires version 1.2 and the other requires 2004 4th edition. Any other versions do not record correctly. Try searching forums for your specific LMS.

Your Reporting/Tracking is likely messed up. But why not use SCORM Cloud? It will give you the straight answer. It’s free, and you should know how to fix this and run your QA. If you don’t know, read up.

Yes, this is a common issue with SCORM packages. It could be due to LMS settings or SCORM file configuration. Check SCORM Version, LMS Settings, and in Articulate, enable the ‘resume course on restart’ option before exporting the SCORM package.

You probably need to go back to edit in Articulate and fix it there.
