Great online course platform for classroom use?

Hi everyone,

As an educator, I’m looking to provide online classes for my students and I’m comparing a few platforms such as Teachable, Thinkific, Udemy, and more.

Here are my needs:

  • Accommodate 50-100 students or more
  • Allow me to upload many videos of large sizes (1GB or more)
  • Ability to create quizzes and assessments for progress tracking
  • Important: Free to create and preferably free to use for my students too!

I’m not planning to sell my courses to the public. It will be for internal use for my students only. Any ideas on how I can achieve this? Thanks a lot! Any other suggestions or recommendations would be much appreciated.

Moodle will be the most economical option for what you’re requesting… However, someone skilled in its installation and configuration will be required.

Other than that, I can’t think of anything that is free that will satisfy your request. D2L is one of the most widely used online learning environments in Canada, however it is not inexpensive.

hi students An open-source Learning Management System (LMS) widely adopted by schools and institutions. It provides extensive customization options and robust features for developing interactive courses, such as forums, quizzes, and assignments. However, it necessitates technical proficiency for efficient setup and management.

Online classes for free? Got it!. Here are some ideas.

  • Google Classroom: Free for 50-100 students, good for managing class and small videos.
  • Edmodo: Another free option with video uploads, quizzes, and discussions.

For huge videos, try YouTube (unlisted for free sharing) but you’ll need another tool for quizzes.
