I’m curious about what platforms people are using to build their online courses these days. What features do you like or dislike? Do any of them have discussion forums or testing options? I’m just trying to figure out the best way to get started.
I’d also like to know which platforms creators are using - what do you like the most and dislike about them?
I’m now getting ready to create the course. And I really don’t know what to settle on. That’s why I’m here.
What kind of course? Subject etc?
Programming/video editing! I’m considering using this tool: https://workspace.google.com/marketplace/app/course_website_builder/211607220327 but it’s mainly for serving videos and write-ups. I’ll use https://www.examinationhall.online for quizzes. Planning to build my own discussion forum too!
WordPress + MemberPress or AccessAlly works great! MemberPress has good e-learning add-ons. If you want more CRM integration, check out AccessAlly, though it’s pricier. The best part? You own your content, unlike some platforms that upsell.
Any downsides to going the WordPress + MemberPress route? I want to create a finance course and sell locally but Teachable costs a lot. What’s the downside to not using a larger platform?

It comes down to whether you want to scale and own your content. Check out this podcast I did: https://www.podbean.com/ew/pb-mjfwv-174f008
The place I work for uses Kajabi, and it’s excellent all around. The only thing they’re outsourcing is the student community forum, for which they use Circle.
+1 for Kajabi! It’s pretty solid.
A lot of folks are on Teachable. I tried Coassembly but it has limits. Looking for better options that won’t break the bank.
If you’re tech-savvy, WordPress plugins like AcademyLMS or MemberPress are great! For ready-made solutions, check out Ezycourse or Kajabi.
I’ve been using Qstream for a microlearning course in Q&A format. It’s been interesting mixing it up with Articulate and Vyond for videos.
When you say building, are you talking about authoring tools or just hosting platforms? TrainerCentral is popular for hosting and creating courses.
How much is their pricing? Because this doesn’t sound free or cheap.
TrainerCentral starts at $20/month. The basic plan has most features you need for creating and selling courses.
Paradiso LMS is another option. It has course builders, discussion forums, testing tools, and multimedia support.
