I’m looking to compile some potential features for a webinar about what’s missing in LMS platforms. I want to focus on features that could actually solve real problems for L&D folks. For instance, all LMSs have reporting, but not all offer saved reports that you can automatically rerun at intervals, like every third Friday of the month. What do you find lacking in your LMS?
I wish it could creatively guilt trip learners into taking their assigned training. That would be hilarious and effective.
What about something beyond just the ‘past due’ course notifications? Maybe a fun pop-up with animation when courses are overdue?
How about a system that consistently works and is designed by actual learning professionals? That would be a game changer.
I want better badging and certifications that are actually exciting. Also, easy-to-read data and reports, and seamless integration with Teams webinars. Something like Duolingo-level reminders for learners would be awesome.
xAPI support, without a doubt! It would elevate our tracking capabilities.
I would love for our LMS to recommend courses based on what users have already taken. An intelligent recommendation system would be so helpful.
Enforced microlearning would be great. It could really enhance retention.
We have to build the same course in different formats. I wish there was an authoring platform that lets us create a single course that works for both instructor-led and self-paced contexts.
Honestly, I just want it to be intuitive. I’d take a basic, easy-to-use LMS over a fancy one that’s hard to navigate any day.
I wish ours had discussion board capabilities. It would be great for cohorts to go through courses together, but at their own pace.
A built-in Learning Record Store (LRS) with learner analysis algorithms for personalized learning content would be amazing. It should focus on making learning efficient for learners, not just speeding up content development.
I wish my LMS could provide personalized learning paths based on user behavior and performance. It would be great if it could dynamically adjust as people progress, suggesting advanced courses when needed. Better integration with other tools like Slack would also be a game changer.
Built-in AI tools to help generate learning plans and course materials that include images, diagrams, and videos would be incredible.
I want comprehensive integration with major HRIS systems and better control over custom reports. We waste so much time manually updating reports for analytics. A good on-demand interface with virtual labs would be nice too.
Canvas needs to allow for easier manipulation of rubric components and quiz questions. There’s a lot to improve there.
Easy access, mobile-friendly design, and automated communication throughout the learning journey would be great. Something with gamification, badges, and a robust quizzing engine would be ideal.
I wish they would just include an AI video creator. That would save so much time.
You should ask actual learners what they want instead of just us e-learning professionals. There’s often a disconnect between creating engaging e-learning and what learners actually need.
