Transitioning an LMS from Scorm 1.2 to Scorm 2004 Compatibility

Hello Guyz,

Recently, my employer approached me with a request to switch the Learning Management System (LMS) for one of our clients. Currently, the LMS is designed to operate with Scorm 1.2, but they want it to be compatible with Scorm 2004. I’m uncertain whether this entails a complete reconstruction of the LMS or if I can simply adjust existing code and functionalities to accommodate Scorm 2004.

Based on what I’ve gathered, Scorm 1.2 is reportedly simpler to implement compared to 2004. Thus, transitioning to Scorm 2004 might be a more complex endeavor than initially anticipated.

To provide context:

  • I didn’t develop the original LMS, and the original developer is no longer with the company.
  • While my expertise lies in web development (particularly with WordPress, React, CMSs, Rest APIs, etc.), I lack experience with Scorm.
  • The client has control over the frontend interface, which interfaces with the LMS for data processing, adding another layer of complexity.

I would greatly appreciate any insights or expertise on this matter!
