Hey everyone, I’ve been using Sensei LMS to run my Multidisciplinary Design course, and I just checked my student list. I was super excited to see some enrollments, but then I realized they were all bots. It’s been frustrating, and I’m new to this whole LMS thing. Does anyone have any strategies to keep bots from signing up? I’d really appreciate any help.
We issue enrollment codes for registration and enrollment. Also, 2FA can really help. Just ask users to check their email for a verification link to finish signing up.
What’s 2FA? I’ve heard about it but not sure how it works.
It’s two-factor authentication. Basically, it adds an extra step to verify that someone is who they say they are, usually through an email or text code.
Yeah, that’s a WordPress issue. They get into Sensei through WordPress registration. There are plugins like CleanTalk and tools like Cloudflare that can help block them. You might need a developer to set it up properly though.
I’ve heard of CleanTalk. Does it really work? I’m a bit skeptical.
For sure, it helps a lot with spam. But remember, it’s not 100% foolproof. Just adds an extra layer of protection.
Since Sensei uses WordPress, you could try double opt-in for email verification. It makes sure that users actually confirm their email before enrolling.
Double opt-in sounds good. Does it really cut down on bots?
Definitely, it adds a step that most bots won’t complete. Just make sure your email setup is working smoothly.
You might want to put your website behind Cloudflare and block countries you’re not selling to. That can help, too.
Blocking countries… sounds a bit extreme. Are there specific countries that are problematic?
Yeah, some regions are known for high bot activity. It’s worth checking your analytics to see where traffic is coming from.
Consider adding an hCaptcha or a real account activation step that requires human input. It can deter bots pretty effectively.
hCaptcha? What’s that? Sounds interesting.
It’s a CAPTCHA system that’s designed to be more user-friendly. It helps ensure that users are human without being too annoying.
