Reccommedations on the top learning and development conferences?

Hi Guys,

I’m interested in attending learning and development conferences but unsure which ones are the best to consider. Can anyone recommend top conferences for professional growth in this field? I’m looking for events with valuable content, networking opportunities, and practical insights. Any suggestions or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks…

Consider conferences like ATD International Conference & Exposition, Learning Technologies, and DevLearn. They offer valuable content, networking, and practical insights.

Attending conferences in the learning and development (L&D) field can be an excellent way to stay current with industry trends, network with professionals, and gain valuable insights. Here are some notable conferences to consider:

International Conferences:

  • ATD International Conference & Exposition: One of the largest L&D events, featuring a variety of workshops, keynote speakers, and networking opportunities.
  • ASTD Conference & Expo: Focuses on innovative learning strategies and technologies.
  • World HRD Congress: A global event for HR and L&D professionals.

Regional Conferences:

  • ELC (Employee Learning Conference): Regional conferences across the U.S. focusing on practical L&D strategies.
  • European HR Congress: A major event for HR professionals in Europe, covering a broad range of L&D topics.
  • Asia Pacific HR Congress: Similar to the European HR Congress but tailored for the Asia Pacific region.

Niche Conferences:

  • Learning Technologies: Centers on technology-enabled learning and innovation.
  • Gamification Summit: Ideal for those interested in gamification in learning.
  • Learning and Performance Institute Conference: A UK-based event offering insights into the latest L&D trends and best practices.

When selecting a conference, consider:

  • Relevance: Ensure the conference aligns with your interests and expertise.
  • Networking Opportunities: Look for events that offer strong networking potential.
  • Content Quality: Research the speakers and sessions to ensure valuable content.
  • Location and Cost: Consider the location and the overall cost of attending.

Devlearn was cool but if you’re more creative then go to adobe max. A lot more real world use cases and value in AM compared to devlearn which was a lot of theory and some exmapels

I recommend the App Promotion Summit. It’s by far the best app event I’ve ever attended! There are numerous informative seminars with a diverse range of skilled speakers from small to large enterprises. It’s also a terrific networking opportunity, as you can meet a lot of intriguing actors from the app marketing sector all over the world.

Although conferences are fun and excellent for networking, considering their expense, I don’t think they offer the best value for professional development. The busy schedules prevent in-depth study even though they expose students to novel concepts and cutting-edge technologies. Pre-conference workshops are available at some conferences for those who want more in-depth instruction, although they are not free. DevLearn, for instance, can cost more than $2,500; that money would be better used for specialized instruction in subjects like Adult Learning Theory or Articulate Storyline.

This is broad guidance, and conferences are not all the same. ATD Techknowledge, for example, was marketed as unique, but based on what I saw online, it appeared to be comparable to others. For continuing professional development, you can think about joining a local ATD chapter rather than heavily investing on conferences at a reduced price.
