I’ve been hearing a lot about the Google career certificates and I’ve got a few questions. First, is it actually possible to finish a certificate in less than 2 months? How many hours per week would I need to commit to pull that off? Also, once I’m done, do I get to keep access to the course materials, or do I lose it if I stop paying for Coursera? And last one—if I’ve got no work experience and just a high school diploma, can this certificate realistically help me get a job?
I did the Google IT Support certificate last year. If you want to finish in under 2 months, I’d say plan for at least 15-20 hours a week. It’s doable but intense!
Good to know! 20 hours sounds like a solid commitment. Did you find the material pretty straightforward, or was it a lot to take in?
Pretty straightforward, but it depends on your background. If you’re new to IT, some concepts might take a bit to sink in.
I’m not 100% sure about access to the materials after you stop paying for Coursera. You could always take notes or save some resources as you go along just in case.
Yeah, that might be the safest bet. Thanks for the tip!
Honestly, even with no work experience, you’ll have something valuable to add to your resume with these certs. A few of my friends landed entry-level IT jobs with just this and some solid interview prep.
That’s reassuring! I just worry that companies will see the lack of experience and pass on me.
Totally get it! But don’t discount yourself. They know the certs are for people just starting out. Just be ready to talk about the projects you did in the course.
I heard Coursera sometimes has free or discounted options for Google certs if that helps! Maybe worth looking into if you’re on a budget.
Thanks! I’ll definitely check that out before I sign up.
I’m actually working on the Data Analytics one now! It’s a bit slow going but very thorough. I’m giving myself 4 months so I don’t get overwhelmed.
Makes sense to pace yourself. The last thing I want is burnout halfway through.
