Micro-Learning App -- Looking for resources and examples

Greetings, everyone!

I’m fairly new to the e-learning and instructional design field, but I’m currently involved in projects aimed at revitalizing my company’s training programs.

We’re particularly intrigued by the concept of micro-learning, and I’m actively seeking resources to better understand and develop this style of learning. Currently, I’m delving into “Microlearning: Short and Sweet” by Defelice and Kapp, published by ATD. Have any of you had experience with microlearning development? Could you recommend additional resources or share practical examples? If we come across a compelling example, we’re eager to jump in and create a test lesson.

Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

It’s a wise decision to incorporate microlearning into training programs. Defelice and Kapp’s “Microlearning: Short and Sweet” is a good place to start. For further information, check out webinars or online courses offered by companies like Coursera and LinkedIn Learning. For real-world examples, go through case studies, blogs, and forums in the business. You may improve your microlearning development abilities and gain a deeper knowledge by collaborating and experimenting with others.

Microlearning consists of short learning segments, typically lasting 3-5 minutes, that cover specific topics. Why use microlearning? Research shows that learners have shorter attention spans and better focus with brief, targeted content. By breaking down information into bite-sized pieces, learners can absorb and retain knowledge more effectively and quickly.

Microlearning components may include short videos explaining concepts, processes, or real-life examples. Each learning objective is divided into the smallest possible units, around which the learning content is developed.

It’s inspired by concepts from that book and my extensive experience in e-learning. While many view microlearning as just smaller modules, I see its potential to revolutionize the entire process. With microlearning, training can be created more swiftly, require fewer technical skills, and address strategic organizational challenges beyond traditional compliance, onboarding, and sales training.

YouTube and LinkedIn Learning are excellent examples of microlearning. Their short 2-3 minute instructional videos are highly effective.
