LMS for a nonprofit with an insane number of students

I looked through some of the postings on choosing an LMS, and there are so many, but I have a unique use case: I work for a small nonprofit that provides training and certification, which is basically watching a training video, taking a quiz, and receiving a certificate.

More than 300,000 persons have already been certified. Our present LMS is self-hosted on WordPress and is straining to stay up, therefore we are looking for a new one. However, most LMS platforms charge per user, which is just not sustainable for a tiny organisation. We currently have approximately 3,300 active users per month, however they will need to return to our site on occasion to collect their certification owing to state laws that need it.

I am thinking about using Moodle, but because I am already overburdened in my job, I would rather pay for something hosted where someone else handles updates and security.

Is there anything out there that might suit our needs?

Moodle is far too much for the use case you stated.

I think the workflow is slightly more sophisticated than that, but I would still consider developing customised software that does exactly what you require and nothing more.

If you do so, even a small web host will be able to handle the user count.

Given your nonprofit’s needs, consider platforms like MoodleCloud or TalentLMS. They offer user-friendly interfaces and can handle state law requirements for certifications. Compare their pricing to find what fits best for your organization’s sustainability.
