Here’s the context, but the question is: What’s it like being an LMS Administrator? Is it stressful? And does the pay match the cost of living where you are?
Right now, I’m doing both e-learning development and LMS operations for a startup that’s growing fast. My boss talked about training me to be a full-time LMS Administrator instead of my current mix of roles.
It could be a broad or narrow role @Arthur. Most of the time, it’s just administrative stuff, like scheduling training for L&D. However, on a broader level, you may work with configuration, experiment with the system to determine the optimal method to accomplish things, and communicate strategy by altering the system. I suppose you should ask your manager what he means by ‘LMS admin’.
I have only ever worked in content production and LMS management. Although I enjoy the systems work, reporting, and curriculum development aspects of it all, I feel much more creative when I’m creating courses and editing videos. Personally, I prefer to have both. Your location in the world, the duties of the job, and your prior experience all affect your pay.
As @SpeechSavvy mentioned, this might be quite broad or very narrow. If you work for a startup, I would presume that your duties are on the broader end of the range. The day-to-day tasks include resolving technological issues, assigning learning objects, tracking completions/due dates, and so on. As you advance, you may be in charge of the LMS’s appearance and layout, as well as the content library’s structure. Is your LMS powered by a third-party vendor? Depending on the size of your firm, you may be involved in managing that vendor relationship as well as dealing with them on new feature requests and other issues.
