How long does it take to make a one-hour video?

I’m curious about the time it takes to create a one-hour tutorial-style video, especially if it’s faceless and focused on teaching a programming language. What’s your experience? How do you break down the time for pre-preparation, scripting, recording, and editing?

It really depends on the complexity of the video. Sometimes I’m just beautifying a PowerPoint, and other times I need to do major audio restoration. I’d say about 1.5-2 hours per minute of video is a good rough estimate.

That’s a lot! When I was in TV, we used to go by a 10:1 ratio. So ten hours of work for one hour of final video. But it varies based on the edits.

Wow, that’s crazy! I can see how heavy edits would add time for sure.

I just made three hours of video and it took me ages. I thought I had it all planned, but I ended up needing to rework a lot. I should’ve done a short proof of concept first to save time.

What do you mean by proof of concept? Like a shorter version?

@Adley
Exactly! Just a quick video to test my ideas. It would’ve helped me see what worked before going all out.

For me, it can take about 2 weeks for a one-hour video. It totally depends on the content though. If it’s mostly animation, I’d double that time.

Creating a one-hour tutorial-style video usually takes me around 20-40 hours with regular tools. But I’ve found that AI tools like Cognispark really speed things up.

I’ve heard about AI helping with video creation. Does it really save that much time?

@NoahFreeman
For sure! Planning and scripting can go from two days to just one day. It’s a game changer.

I’ve never created a one-hour video, but I’m curious about how it all works. What kind of tools do you use?
