Hey everyone, my team is currently looking to shift from iSpring to another authoring tool. We’re booking demos with both Elucidat and Articulate, but I want to know what some of your favorite authoring tools are. Bonus points if they’re easy to use since we have over 1,000 in-house courses that will need converting with just a 2-man team. So a bit of context: we’re a manufacturing company with about 2,500 employees, and it’s pretty niche, so almost all of our content needs to be created in-house. Right now, trainers put together PowerPoints and send them for approvals. My coworker and I handle the approvals, format the instructions, and ensure compliance before using iSpring to SCORM the documents and add knowledge checks. We’re looking to move toward a more professional look as we grow, but with only two of us, we can’t put a ton of effort into every instruction. If we can create a template that users can’t deviate from, that would save us a lot of time. We’re also seeing a growing need for training to be more accessible, like text-to-speech and translation capabilities. As an instructional designer, I’m hoping to catch up enough to start hosting classes for our trainers, teaching them more about adult learning and gamification when creating courses. So, when we get to that point, we really want a system that supports gamification.
For ease of use, I’d recommend Articulate Rise. If you’re looking for a feature-rich option, then Articulate Storyline is great too.
I’d say play the long game. Most companies use these tools, so if you switch jobs, your new employer will probably want you to have experience with these.
Just curious, do these workers have access to desktops, or are you thinking about training them over smartphones? This could impact how you deliver the content.
If you do decide on Articulate Rise or Storyline, I’m happy to assist with projects. I have experience with Adobe Captivate for 8 years and 4 years with Articulate 360.
Have you checked out tapybl.com? We’re using it at our company, and it’s pretty intuitive, especially the workflow editor.
It really depends on your use cases. What kind of stuff has your team been doing in iSpring? Are you doing much custom JavaScript?
Could you share more about your audience and the type of content in those 1,000+ courses? Knowing if they’re technical training, compliance, soft skills, etc., would help recommend authoring tools.
I recently demoed Chameleon Creator and liked it a lot. It fits nicely between Rise 360 and Evolve Authoring for responsive, lightweight HTML5 eLearning development.
I’d suggest checking out Basewell. It can handle a lot of tasks in just a few hours, and it has built-in authoring, distribution, and analytics tools.
I spent most of my career creating training in manufacturing and industrial automation. I now use Adobe Captivate and love it. It’s easy to use and integrates JavaScript if you need that later.
