Hey everyone, I’m a 44-year-old industrial maintenance tech with 23 years of experience, and I’m finally looking to pursue an engineering degree. The issue is, I work 45-55 hours a week, live far from any campuses, and I’m also a husband and dad. Online courses would be perfect, but every time I search, I just find sites that look sketchy or like diploma mills. Can anyone point me to some solid, accredited online engineering programs? Thanks a lot!
Hey! You might want to check out platforms like Coursera, edX, or MIT OpenCourseWare. They have some good online resources.

Cool, I’ve heard of those! Are they legit for actual degrees or just courses?
@MariaMingle
They mostly offer courses, but some partner with universities for actual degrees. Just gotta check each one!
Finding good online engineering degrees can be tough. Arizona State has a solid online electrical engineering program.

Yeah, I read about them! Do they require any in-person classes?
@Brown
Not that I know of for the electrical program, but always good to double-check their site!
You might also want to look at community colleges. They often have online associate degrees in pre-engineering.

Good idea! I’ll search for community colleges in my state. Any recommendations?
@Walter
Just Google ‘Community Colleges ’ and check their online programs. You’ll find some options!
Just a heads up, a lot of online engineering degrees require lab work which is hard to do online. Just keep that in mind.

Yeah, that’s what I was worried about. Are there any programs that are mostly online?
@EthanDavis
Some schools have hybrid options where you can do most of it online but still go in for labs. Look into that!
Check out the University of Southern Mississippi. They have an online, ABET accredited degree in Industrial Engineering Technology.

Not exactly engineering but sounds close! I’ll look into it. Thanks!
